If the undercoating is a rubber based product, stay away, stay far away. It will destroy your vehicle far worse than if you had done nothing. Hopefully it's an oil-wax based product.

Re: to keep or not? 2005 Ford Freestyle SE 65,775 miles

Can anyone tell me more about this "undercoating"?

What is it and should I have it done to my 12 years old Freestyle too?

Oil spots on garage floor

Recent days I noticed there were oil spots on the garage floor. They were 5” diameters. The color was light brown. Looking below the bottom of the car, I could see the transmission pan is wet. I wonder which fluid is it, transmission or motor oil? I recently changed motor oil at a local repair shop....

Re: Engine overheating no heat

Never use stop leak products, they mess up the radiator. Find a trusting tech to fix on sign of leak.

Re: Did I make a mistake?

Hi DanyLee1977 and JimMc, As far as changing the fluid on a 205,000 mile car... well that is a 50/50 proposition. Personally, I would do it. I would also talk to a Ford dealer and see if there is any indication of a service history in the Ford database. The last time I had mine changed (at a Ford d...

After weeks and months of concern, here is the final outcome. After diagnosis and test driving with technician, finally got a booking took the car to do the replacement of the rear hubs. The noise was caused by the rear hubs. Now it is as quiet as can hear bird chirping. Now I am not used to the qui...

Re: How to spot a 6-speed trans in a 500

Wiki has general description of the Five Hundreds' transmissions. Search Ford Five Hundred.

ZF Batavia CFT30 CVT

Or

6-speed Aisin F21 automatic

I believe there are videos on YouTube has pictures of the 2 appearances or take a part.

Re: How to spot a 6-speed trans in a 500

There were no 3.5L for 500. 3.5L would be the revised Taurus.

All 500 AWD would have CVT.

FWD SE standard CVT.
FWD SEL, Limited standard 6 speed.

(Did package changed in following years, not sure. But can check.)

Re: Noise at high speed, looking for thoughts

After test drive, tech was saying it's the rear hubs causing the noise. I am glad, but uneasy. Reading about the cvt and ptu problems on freestyles. I am afraid of spending money replacing the hubs, then find out is the cvt making noise. Quoted $1600 rear hubs and 4 new tires. Writer suggested have ...

Re: Noise at high speed, looking for thoughts

Hi guys, Didn't expect any further replies, so Thanks! Since my last post, the noise has grown by 1/3 at least. My worry is that it is sounding more, more like a transmission input shaft problem. Next Wednesday will be my scheduled oil change and diagnose the noise at my Ford dealer. I will let you ...
