Re: New Explorer Coming

Thanks for the link, andy. VERY interesting. To my eye, the softened edges and elevated rear end owe a lot to the Freestyle/Taurus X design, much more so than to the Box,...uh, Flex. I love my 'Style, and have to feel vindicated that Ford seems to be returning to the design that they had abandoned. ...

New Explorer Coming

Big news here in Ill-noise is that Ford will be building the new Explorer at the Torrence Avenue assembly plant in Chicago. That's where the Taurus was made for several years. The new Explorer will reportedly be slightly downsized and more fuel efficient. Could this be the "Son of Freestyle"?

Re: New Tires: Timing Is Everything

UPDATE: Now that we are in DEEP winter here in northern Ill-noise, have been able to drive my Hydroedges on ice, snowpack, and in snow. The verdict: they're fine. Treads give adequate traction in snow and, as long as you don't drive like a nitwit, they give a solid, safe ride on winter roads. Just b...

Re: Need some mud flaps

Got my four at my Ford dealer. $100.00 installed. Maybe a little pricey, but done right.

Re: Wheel alignment specs?

Had an alignment done after an accident and my mileage dropped by 5 mpg. Had the shop put it back the way it was and the mileage went back to normal (26-28 mpg hwy). When I bought my new Michelen Hydroedge tires a few months ago, figured "if it ain't broke..." and passed on alignment. No problem sin...

Re: Sun Visor Extender?

My previous car, a 2002 Taurus, had a double visor: a mini-visor would stay in place on the windshield while the larger visor would swing to the side. The larger visor also covered the driver's side window more adequately than the one on the 'Style. I'm grateful for the info on visor extensions, sin...

Re: Tire decision time

Recently posted "New Tires: Timing Is Everything" on this board ref. my Michelin Hydroedge purchase at Blain's Farm & Fleet, a Midwest chain store. Am well pleased so far with the tires, though other posters warned of a possibly rough and noisy ride. My Ford dealer said they had a meet-or-beat price...

Re: New Tires: Timing Is Everything

Thanks for the input. So far, the Hydroedge tires have given me great traction and stability in the rain. My mileage is also showing slight improvement. This winter, I'll pay special attention to snowy conditions, given that I accept the limitations of FWD and wound up in a ditch last winter.

Re: New Tires: Timing Is Everything

No slam on Firestone or any other tire, but when you get 90,000 mile Michelens, with all the extras for less than $500.00, that's hard to beat. :!:

New Tires: Timing Is Everything

Back in January, after an unintentional off-road experience, I started pricing new tires to replace my slip-and-slide Continentals. Thanks to this forum, I had set my sites on Michelen Hydroedge P215/65R17s with the 90,000 mile treadwear warranty. At the local Blain's Farm & Fleet, I was quoted a pr...

Re: Wet Drivers Side Floor

BrettS is on to something. It seems to be a Fordish problem. Had the same happen with an old Crown Vic II work car and my otherwise trouble-free 1998 Taurus.

Re: New Tires?

Did you have a four-wheel alignment done with the tire installation? I had one after accident related body work. The independant body shop had sent my 'Style to a Chevy/Chrysler dealership for the alignment, and my highway mpg went from 27-28 to 22-23. The mechanic insisted that he followed Ford spe...

Re: What's your MPG?

This week, a 70 mph roundtrip on I-80 to Iowa City, approximately 170 miles, 90+ degree heat, air set at 72, averaged 27-28+ mpg. Not bad. Not bad at all.
