Re: Can it be fixed (bad transmission)? Several codes listed

Know this is old, but the codes to me look like electrical... maybe megatronics unit or wiring harness issue.

Re: Transmission specialist cvt repair

Since you offered, Transpecialists... After having my traction/wrench/check engine lights come on last month and the Freestyle limping home in safe mode, I had my throttle body replaced ($650) at the dealership (I had had it cleaned under the Ford recall the month before). As I pulled into my drive...

Re: Getting close to 200,000 mile mark...

Thanks for the reply. I know about the cvt and have changed both filters and fluid. I'm actually due for another high pressure filter and fluid change in the spring.

Getting close to 200,000 mile mark...

Hi all, my 2006 is getting close to 200,000 miles and I was wondering what issues there are with the engine. A lot of talk on here about the cvt, but not much about this. I know it's a pretty solid engine, just want to be up on the possible issues.

Thanks!

Steering tight

2006 SEL... Anyone know the size of the universal joint on the steering shaft closest to the rack? Mine needs replaced, and was trying to avoid buying a whole new shaft.

Thanks!

Re: Freestyle steering really tight?

YES!! That was the issue. I checked the u-joint at the rack and it was partially seized. Took it all apart and cleaned it up and its moving pretty freely... for now. Gonna replace it soon. Thanks for the info!!!

Freestyle steering really tight?

Hi all, I have a 2006 Freestyle. Over the last week, the steering has gotten really tight. When you turn left or right it feels like there are spots where the power steering cuts out. My guess is the power steering pump is bad, but just looking for some advise before I start throwing parts at it. Th...

Radio resetting on my '06 Freestyle

The radio started resetting on my '06 Freestyle. Seems to have no real ryme or reason to it. Usually when the car sits for a while. I'll come out to it and the clock has been reset among with all the other settings. But it has also done it while driving down the road. I cleaned the battery terminals...

Great little OBDII Scanner...

Just to put it out there, I got a Foxwell NT630 PRO from Amazon for $140.00 Works very well. Does the usual code scanning stuff, but also has ABS, SRS, and steering wheel alignment functions. I got it to work on my GMC Envoy, but tried it out on my wife's 06' Freestyle. ABS will autobleed ABS system...

Glad you got it out. Be sure to use a little anti-seize.

Re: CVT Issue When Cold

If you can get the head off, you may be able to grab the bolt with pliers after you get the filter housing off.

Re: What happens after CVT failure?

Glad you got if fixed, but $400 to change the belt and tensioner!!! That's why I try to do most of the work myself, or worst case, take it to a local shop. The parts probably only cost $50-75.

Only real option I see is to drill a hole in the bolt and try an extractor. I'd start small and go bigger if you have to. Was having the same issue with mine the 1st winter I had it (2 years ago), changed both filters, and replaced the fluid and problem solved. I used the Ford CVT Fluid though.

I did mine a year ago. Plan on changing it again in the spring... barring any unforeseen problems.
