Re: Replace Front Axles on 2005 FS FWD

If you forced the axle in... I'd look at the inner CV joint being hyper extended.

The inner joints are tripod plunging style and if they are hyper extended then forced back in the needle bearing and collars can get damaged or misaligned with the cup.

Or you just got a chappy rebuilt axle.

You have to be more disruptive. Is the Boise a singular bang or thud? Is it a whine that happens at all times in reverse...etc etc

I got mine at 119k had a trans service at 60k all Ford service history. I changed the high pressure filter and used Ford CVT oil.
It's due next service at 180k. I think I'm going to do it again. But I do drive it like a grandpa

Re: How to improve gas mileage

Proper tire pressure, make sure the brake caliper slides, calipers are free, fresh angle gear oil, rear oil, fresh plugs. Aside from that then you dive into modifications that improve Volumetric Efficency (VE) VE is easiest improved by less restrictive air inlet and exhaust. So cold air intakes and ...

I'd say you should have gotten more than the labor, you should have gotten the part at their cost if not on their dime.

Re: Engine Seized? 2005 Ford Freestyle Limited AWD

Glad it worked out. Never assume anything. I was about to post that it's likley a coincidence oil is low... not gone and check primary starting cables and the IGN lead wire to the starter. It only takes about 1.25 to1.75 qts. To be off the stick. Engine takes 6.5 ish quarts on a full proper oil chan...

Re: 2005 Freestyle CVT code P0641 REPAIRED

I'd cut it back apart, pull the loom apart figure out how many wires are damaged, cut out the damaged one, splice in new wire with solder, heat shrink, then tape and new loop, double loop or as you did tube or hose it. Viola.. Permanent repair. If left alone the wires will corrode and you'll have no...

Re: Inner Rear Well Liner Replacement

Yea mine just started doing that at 160k. Heat a putty knife with a butane torch scrape it off. Then wire wheel it, rust encapsulate it then prime then Paint then undercoat. If you are real squirrely remove, wire wheel, clean, wire wheel, clean wire wheel again, POR15 metal prep, POR15, topcoat POR1...

Re: Rattling noise ~2krpm, could it be fuel pump?

Noises are hard to diagnosis over the interwebs. If you have access to jack stands and a jack. Securely raise the car, check the exhaust hangers, lightly wrap on the catalyst and see if the material has broken loose, check the propeller AKA drive shaft and it's center support for play, check the rea...

Re: Can it be fixed (bad transmission)? Several codes listed

Anything can be fixed. It's just a matter of how much money are you going to spend on the car. Generally speaking you're going to spend about 4 grand to have a shop that's willing to rebuild a CVT rebuild the CVT parts and labor. You can still get a CVT rebuilt Ford but it's going to cost you $4,000...
