Re: morning creaking crackling exhaust system noise

UPDATE: The car has 3 CATs, one off each bank of engine and one in the rear. The 2 on the banks are fine with temp test; 400F going in about 200 going out. The rear is 120 in and 140 out. The rear makes some crackling noise intermittent.

Re: morning creaking crackling exhaust system noise

Update, Started car this morning on ramps. Isolated crackling noise to rear cat converter. This was replaced 2 years ago. Watched Eric the Car Guy video on how to test and voltage on from rear O2 sensor not moving at all, no error code. Did temp test and front of cat was 140 and rear was 155 so CAT ...

morning creaking crackling exhaust system noise

2005 Freestyle FWD; when I start in the morning I hear a creaking crackling noise from exhaust system. Sounds like metal stressing, maybe from heat. The noise goes away after 5 or so minutes. No performance issues. Looking for some ideas on what is causing and how I can fix.

Thanks
Kevin

Replace Front Axles on 2005 FS FWD

I recently replaced both front axles on my FS. Passenger side came out easy and went in easy. Very straightforward. The Drivers Side was/is a different story. The axle was very hard to get out; finally used a weighted puller and it came right out. Could not move with hammer, chisel and bi screwdrive...

Re: Power Steering Whine

I recently installed new cv axles and when testing the car I noticed a whining noise when turning. I thought it was from the new cv axles. After looking closer I found the problem to be low fluid when car warmed up. I added about 2oz max and problem solved. No more whining, runs great. I will flush ...

Re: Lower Control Arm

Well here we are 18 months later and I am finally resolving the lower control arm bolt issue. I needed to change cv axles and needed to tear wheel Assembly down. I noticed the ball joint on the lower arm had a ripped boot and I could not remove cone washer and replace the boot. The control arm is a ...

Re: Is it necessary to change the filter with CVT fluid change?

I just completed a fluid drain and replace high pressure filter. Some additiona notes/tips We torx bolts on the HP filter housing are T27 NOT T 25. That said I could not get two of the bolts off. They were very tight and stripped both. I then forced a 12pt - 12mm socket over bolt and hammered on. Th...

Re: 2007 Freestyle CVT cold start issue p0701,p0868,p0871,p0961

I had some cold start transmission light and same codes. Weather warmed up and no more codes or lights. I replaced the high pressure filter and drained the pan. I did not replace pan filter. The service was due, 60,000 since last. Fluid was a brownish color and no burnt odor. Looked pretty good. The...

Re: Front End Noise - GRUNT/CREEK on Humps (05 Freestyle, FWD)

I recently replaced the original struts on my 2005 FS with 216k miles. Big improvement however still some creeping when turning at low speed on the right side, passenger. Also, when re assembling new strut and new mount the top nut did not tighten as far down as the old nut. The difference is maybe ...

Re: Lower Control Arm

I tried to complete tightening with car on ground and on jack. The bolt just won't move either way at this point. Very poor design. I wish they just had a hole on each side and a bolt and nut. I also tried an impact gun, electric and battery. Thoughts?

Re: Lower Control Arm

i just replaced the lower control arm and struts. I will post more later. On the drivers side the bolt that goes thru the frame and holds lower control arm bushing in place is an issue. It was tough coming out, I applied heat and it came out. When installing new arm this bolt went on tight and the t...

Catalytic Converter Diagnosis & Removal P0420/P0430

I replaced the rear cat last week but the 2 front are not working. Looking at replacing both bank 1 (rear) and bank 2 (front). Bank 1 looks like a tougher removal as one bolt connects cat to a flange and comes from the engine side. No easy access from underneath. Any advice on removing these bolts? ...
