Re: Service Repair manuals?

Do you not use the auto setting? I pretty much keep mine set to 72 year round (unless i need the defrost, then I take control) and that doesn't reset when I start the car. really? what am i doing wrong then? does your car have the same AC as listed in my other post? ever since i bought the car, eve...

Re: 6055.8 mile trip and some statistics

Maximum fuel economy can be measured between 55-65 on highway. My Prius makes it more apparent than the Freestyle, but speed really is a factor. 70+ will cause mpg to start tanking again and you aren't getting the most from your fuel below 55. That's what I noticed on the highway between Amarillo an...

Re: Throttle Body Replaced

Dan, you're going to have to take it in for a clean and flash. You're already out of the extended warranty coverage deadline from Ford on the throttle body. The cleaning you can do yourself, if you want, but the throttle body would need to be updated.

Re: Ford Freestyle Haters Club

With the trans swap, the only things I would be concerned about are value at either trade-in or sale and repairs/maintenance. Truthfully speaking, and judging by the pitiful $3600 I was offered for my '06 with 95K miles, I think trade-in values for the Freestyle have pretty much bottomed out so a t...

Re: Check engine codes

Alternators really do go slowly. My Hyundai's alternator went out and it was a gradual process until it just died completely, but I didn't notice the signs and ended up with a dead car.

Re: Ford Freestyle Haters Club

Once I can get some money saved up (no longer paying daycare and getting loans paid off), I might give it a try. My fiance is driving the Freestyle now since I've come into possession of a Prius. The Prius is just a better car for toting the little one around. With the trans swap, the only things I ...

Re: what is this object please?

That green cap is the low end A/C port. I don't know exactly what it is called, but that is where you connect to charge the lines with refrigerant.

Re: Noise at Park and Neutral......nerve wrecking....

oh, how i pray that this Trans (and Car) would just live as long as Mr Nightflyer's 204,000 miles CVT (at least) , and i would be satisfied. just a few questions again, just can't help it please: 1......immediately after i crank the car nowadays, i keep hearing the "blop-blop-blop-blop" in my head....

Re: Intermittent Low/Struggling Idle After Spark Plugs Chang

One thing to remember is that sometimes you can get condensation in the tank no matter what gas station you go to. This happened when I had my Dakota back in high school. The mechanic told me that the issues I was having would go away is I put the next level of octane in the tank for one fill-up may...

Re: More of my shenanigans!

Still going. I have some other things to pay off first, but once I get all that taken care of I'm going to trade it in for something comparable. I was thinking a 4-door truck, but those aren't easy to come by in my price range out here.

Re: Ac problem? Please help!

They are the same thing. Ford calls it a drive belt. I'm not sure how to check the belt, but when in doubt go ahead and replace it unless you know for sure that it's still relatively new (within the past year or two). An old belt will be somewhat stiff, but the burning smell was from the belt moving...

Re: Ac problem? Please help!

It sounds like the compressor has locked up and it was burning your drive belt. If you leave the AC off and the pulley can still turn, then at least the pulley itself hasn't seized. If you want AC back, you'll have to replace the compressor or find someone willing to replace the internals that are c...

Re: alternator maybe OK despite warning light?

I got a compressor from Jensen Auto for around $125 with maybe $20 in shipping. The compressor isn't terribly hard to replace, but you will end up having to fully recharge the lines and add the oil. It's the recharge fees that really kill you.

Re: FORD EXTENDS WARRANTY ON THROTTLE BODY

Q: has anyone had their throttle body cleaned in the car (with the PCM reset) and then proceed to have even more surge issues? My car started to have some noticiable surging activity, so I had the dealership do the extended warranty work. Its now been 4-5 weeks and I believe the surging problem is ...

Re: Ford Freestyle Haters Club

When the mechatronics unit went out in ours, there was no grinding, only the sudden lurching that eventually shredded the CVT's gears. The service manager and all the service advisors gathered around it as it was locked in parked and was still lurching, trying to inch forward. The service manager h...
