Re: Curt class III receiver hitch fail

Our 08 TX was put out to pasture by similar (but not as catastrophic) unibody failure. https://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8079 Ours was a Hidden Hitch and if I remember correctly it used 6 bolts as well, not that it matters when sheetmetal gets rusty. Life in snow country! :( Ou...

Re: Storage compartment top middle of dash

Yeah I pried under the edge furthest from the windshield, as it hinges from the edge closest to the windshield. Very little force is required to pry it, the lid hardly weighs anything. In my case I had to hold down the button while starting to pry the lid up in order to get it to move, once it relea...

Re: Storage compartment top middle of dash

In my case the button itself wasn't broken; the hinges were. I was able to press the button down, and then use a knife blade to pry the lid up. It wasn't elegant but it worked well enough to get it out and replace it. Not sure if that will help if the button itself is broken; I've never seen that be...

Re: Curt class III receiver hitch fail

I put some more thought into the bike situation and realized I have another solution to this. This is somewhat specific to my own family as right now my wife and I have 4 and 9 year old sons; it might not be as useful for others. I have a folding bike rack (the kind you would put on the trunk of a s...

Re: Curt class III receiver hitch fail

I've contacted a couple of local independent welders (through craigslist) and the response I keep getting is "probably not". I've attached two pictures of the channels that show the damage; the intact one is the passenger side while the mutilated one is the driver's side. You can also see that the r...

Re: Curt class III receiver hitch fail

It took me a while, but I was eventually able to remove the receiver. Interesting that you mention yours had 6 bolts, mine only had 4 . I wonder if it was revised at some point? I presume yours extended a fair bit longer towards the center of the car than mine to find two more mounting points. That ...

Curt class III receiver hitch fail

A few years ago I ordered the curt hitch from Amazon and installed it on my 05 limited (not exactly a process I enjoyed, honestly). I occasionally pulled a light utility trailer - heaviest load I ever pulled was one yard of dirt in said trailer - though I mostly used it to carry bicycles. Yesterday ...

Re: Rattling noise ~2krpm, could it be fuel pump?

A while ago I brought the Freestyle to a local independent mechanic. They had a hard time coming up with a solid diagnosis on the rattling sound (as it is at it loudest while driving and not possible to get it to do it at all while parked regardless of engine speed) but their top suspect is catalyti...

Re: Lost a keyless entry button

That was what I was afraid I would hear. Does anyone have a part number for it? I've tried searching for it but I haven't had any luck so far. Searching ebay for "ford freestyle keyless entry pad" (with or without quotes) just gets me keyfobs. I tried it on google and got keyless entry pads for othe...

Lost a keyless entry button

A while ago I noticed that one of the keyless entry buttons on my 05 Limited is missing. I have absolutely no idea when or where it fell off, or how. Are these easy to replace? Would a new one just pop in or do I need to perform surgery on the door to replace it? Does anyone know a useful part numbe...

Re: Passsenger door lock not working as power lock - where to start?

I just finished doing this, I thought I'd post a few thoughts from the process while they're still reasonably fresh in my mind. It ultimately took me about 5-6 hours working alone on it in my garage, looking to a few different youtube videos for assistance along the way. As mentioned before, this wa...

Re: Passsenger door lock not working as power lock - where to start?

Thank you xvert! That looks pretty straightforward from the video, I'll order it up and try it in a couple weeks.

Passsenger door lock not working as power lock - where to start?

My 05 Freestyle limited has had problems with the passenger door lock for some time now. Originally it worked sporadically and often just shook when it was supposed to lock or unlock (rather than completing the movement up or down on its own). However several months ago it stopped working as a power...

Re: What a GEM of a car

I think most of those stories about failure after fluid change are due to the wrong fluid being used. It's hard to say for sure. I just know I've seen it reported more than once here. However we tend to see the death report here, not the autopsy results. The Freestyle is not a sports car and it you...

Re: What a GEM of a car

I know the standard logic is that transmission fluid should be changed at regular recommended intervals. However, on this forum there are more than a couple people who had their CVTs fail catastrophically after the first fluid change. Correlation is of course *not* causation but if you don't have an...
