Re: Lost a keyless entry button

That was what I was afraid I would hear. Does anyone have a part number for it? I've tried searching for it but I haven't had any luck so far. Searching ebay for "ford freestyle keyless entry pad" (with or without quotes) just gets me keyfobs. I tried it on google and got keyless entry pads for othe...

Lost a keyless entry button

A while ago I noticed that one of the keyless entry buttons on my 05 Limited is missing. I have absolutely no idea when or where it fell off, or how. Are these easy to replace? Would a new one just pop in or do I need to perform surgery on the door to replace it? Does anyone know a useful part numbe...

Re: Passsenger door lock not working as power lock - where to start?

I just finished doing this, I thought I'd post a few thoughts from the process while they're still reasonably fresh in my mind. It ultimately took me about 5-6 hours working alone on it in my garage, looking to a few different youtube videos for assistance along the way. As mentioned before, this wa...

Re: Passsenger door lock not working as power lock - where to start?

Thank you xvert! That looks pretty straightforward from the video, I'll order it up and try it in a couple weeks.

Passsenger door lock not working as power lock - where to start?

My 05 Freestyle limited has had problems with the passenger door lock for some time now. Originally it worked sporadically and often just shook when it was supposed to lock or unlock (rather than completing the movement up or down on its own). However several months ago it stopped working as a power...

Re: What a GEM of a car

I think most of those stories about failure after fluid change are due to the wrong fluid being used. It's hard to say for sure. I just know I've seen it reported more than once here. However we tend to see the death report here, not the autopsy results. The Freestyle is not a sports car and it you...

Re: What a GEM of a car

I know the standard logic is that transmission fluid should be changed at regular recommended intervals. However, on this forum there are more than a couple people who had their CVTs fail catastrophically after the first fluid change. Correlation is of course *not* causation but if you don't have an...

Rattling noise ~2krpm, could it be fuel pump?

Some time back our 05 Freestyle limited started making a rattling (or perhaps more like someone blowing a raspberry at high speed) noise. It is dependent on the speed of the engine, most noticeable when the engine is turning ~2-3krpm and we're on the gas pedal with moderate pressure. After ~3.5krpm ...

Re: Storage compartment top middle of dash

Here is what it looked like when I removed the broken compartment. The toothed central part of the hinge broke off completely (seen above the two main parts ) and the end parts both lost their own ends. Pretty much a total failure of the hinge.

Re: Storage compartment top middle of dash

I resolved the problem today. I found someone who was parting out a freebie in my area that had the same color interior so I bought the compartment from him (actually he gave it to me for free as his was slightly broken - though less broken than mine!). For anyone who might be looking to do this in ...

Storage compartment top middle of dash

This might not be the right description for it, but the small storage compartment on the top of the dash - well above the radio, up near the windshield - that opens with a single button has been broken in our Freestyle for years. I was thinking of fixing it but I can't figure out a way to search for...

Freestyle Replacement - Explorer vs Flex

My wife and I have started looking in to what vehicle we want next to replace our Freestyle (humming along at ~157k). We recently went to a dealer and sat down in both a Flex and an Explorer though we weren't ready for a test drive (or a sales person) yet. They seem to have a lot in common, and we'r...

Re: What happens after CVT failure?

The dealer that was able to do this for me was Superior Ford in Plymouth, MN. As for $400 sounding like a lot of money, I agree that it was. NAPA lists the belt tensioner assembly at $70 and the belt for another $23. However the transverse engine makes the install a bit of a hassle and I didn't have...

Re: What happens after CVT failure?

I have been pretty consistently happy with this dealer (I'll avoid turning this into spam by omitting their name here, if people want my recommendation for a dealer in the Minneapolis, MN area they can contact me and I'll happily share it). They are one of the older dealers in the state AFAIK. They ...

Re: What happens after CVT failure?

For those interested in the conclusion of the story, the dealership was able to get it turned around the same day! It was not cheap to have them do it of course (over $400) but it's done and the car is running again. And this still beats the costs I feared I would face for a transmission (nearly imp...
