Re: What is this suspension part and how much to fix?

I replaced the lower control arm on my car because of the worn ball joint. I put the old bushing on the new control arm and have had no problem with it. Ford uses lots of locktite on the bolts holding the control arm and bushing in place. I used lots of PB blaster and loosened and tigthened the bolt...

Re: HELP...cleaned throttle body now a problem

Last fall I had the surging issue and cleaned the TB as I did the time before. Being careful not to get the cleaner in the circuitry of the Throttle Pos. Sensor. When I put the TB back on the car....it would start and run but wouldn't make the car "go". After running all the tests on the TB (thanks ...

Re: Replacing CVT at home

I would be p.o.' d as well. Did you look inside the torque converter to see if you may have pulled the o-ring off when you removed the torque converter? Doesn't seem likely but it wouldn't hurt to check. Also, Are they going to stick you with the shipping to return the tranny? Will they still guaran...

Re: OSB II Code P0442 Problem

I think I can help you with this one. Like most people when filling the tank I squeeze a little extra in after the automatic shutoff. What I have read says that when the auto shutoff stops the flow of gas to your tank, do not top it off. Somehow I think gas or fumes went where it shouldn't have (the...

Re: Please give me hope on my 2005 Freestyle instrument clus

Wow! Thank goodness for the people on this page who figure out what is wrong and then tell us how to fix it! I have lost the lights behind the gas gauge and the other gauge right next to it. The needle still lights up but that is all. My idea on the Freestyle is that despite the cosmetics (bubbling ...

CVT Transmission Parts

Found this site where you can order parts to repair CVT transmission in Ford Freestyle. Download their current catalog and look at page 282 for the CFT30 transmission. Here is the link, it is called "Transtar". http://www.transtar1.com/default.asp Not sure if the output shaft is listed. But they do ...

Re: At What Mileage Did Your CVT Go Out?

Nice survey! How'd you do that? Could you do it again but this time put another question on there.....Has your CVT gone out? This could give an idea of percentage of failures. My friend bought a Freestyle at about the same time as me. His CVT failed (2wd model) at a little less than 100,000 miles. T...

Re: Is it my CVT? 2005 Ford Freestyle

Is there a way we could survey the 3500 odd members of this site to see who has had the CVT failure? It would be interesting to know the actual number of failures and compare it to the average for the industry.

Re: Is it my CVT? 2005 Ford Freestyle

galwaygirl, I know how you feel about your car. I have had the freestyle "issues" and worry about reliability/safety of the car. Overall I think it is a good car...like most it has some problems specific to its model. My last issue was similar to yours. It turned out to be the throttle body. The gen...

Re: engine light

My new throttle body arrived from Tasca Parts today. I rushed home after work to put it on the car and see if that in fact was the problem. As I was putting the wire connector on the throttle position sensor imagine my disappointment when I discovered it was broken! It looked like it was dropped (th...

Re: engine light

I really appreciate all the input you guys have given me. I called the mechanic yesterday (to get the flatbed to come) and he said there was a TSB on the freestyle for a wire being worn through from rubbing on the AC line. He said to check that. I shared everything with him that I learned about my i...

Re: engine light

Thinking I might have an issue with my battery I charged it up and it checked out ok. Looks like the alternator is working as well. Replaced the fuel filter and that didn't help either. Although I replaced the MAF I checked it again. It had 12 V to the red wire and the ground checked out ok to batte...

Re: engine light

Jack, thanks for posting what's what on the accelerator position sensor. To test it I am not sure what to do. I did take it apart and it looked good. There is a plastic piece in there that looks similar to the inside of the throttle position sensor. I am assuming it is a potentiometeter. There are l...
