Re: New User Introduction

Welcome to this forum! Looks like you got yourself a great used car! Since yours is FWD and not AWD, don’t bother about the ptu leaking, you dont have one! The only thing that puzzles me is your water pump. It is a 12 hours job to open the engine and replace it. My guess is that it started leaking a...

Re: Police interceptor brakes

Thank you for the nice description of this low-budget high performance upgrade! I have a question for you; can you still use your 17 ‘’ wheels or you need to upgrade your set of wheels to 18’’??

Sometimes bigger calipers mean bigger wheels...
Thanks again!

Fuel tank sending unit replacement DIY

I was having a fuel smell whenever i was fulling my fuel tank. Lately it got to a point where you could actually see some fuel dripping from the car. I removed the fuel tank access pannels from above and i noticed that the fuel tank sending unit module was covered with fuel... (the one located on th...

Re: Rear Suspension Repair... and a Noise

Mine is a fwd, so the rear suspension is slightly different. I have a broken weld too on this trailing arm nut. It has been like that for the last 2 years maybe with no consequences or noises. (My guess is that you had a hard time lining up that trailing arm to put the bolt back in...) I know you pr...

Re: Front swaybar bushings from FLEX?

I guess if you want to use poly bushings, you have to be ready to use a new bracket as well. The original bushing bracket looks like it is a one piece unit, it’s not possible to separate the bushing from the bracket. For my rear sway bar, i had to destroy and remove the old bushing bracket to instal...

Front swaybar bushings from FLEX?

I am trying hard to find a solution to replace my front swaybar bushings. (2008 TX). I know it comes as a whole unit from Ford. There is no listings of swaybar bushings from MOOG or other manufacturers. I was looking at the 2009 Flex and it seems that there is a front swaybar bushing available (Moog...

Re: Front strut assembly removal AWD

The other option i did use (same as per Ford technician handbook). Remove the whole strut with spring and wheel knuckle. You need to disengage the cv axle from the wheel knuckle, disengage the ball joint (very easy, it is held in the wheel knuckle with a 21mm nut, after just pry it out), disconnect ...

Re: Steering gear removal diy

Just as an update; this past spring i had a very load clunking noise coming from the front end. The noise would occur when the car was parked and the wheels turned. (Car not moving back or forth at all). The noise reminded me like a ball joint poping out of his socket or two metal pieces releasing t...

Front "creaking" brake noise - solution!

I had for a while a front brake creaking noise whenever i would press on the brake pedal. The noise could be heard outside the car and inside the cabin. It seem to be coming either from front calipers or brake master cylinder. I know some of you guys probably have this problem going on for quite som...

Fuel smell in the cabin - solution!

I had a bad fuel smell in the cabin of my '08-X after refueling for quite some time. My wife was telling me that i was probably overfueling the tank... You can imagine! The smell would usually go away went the tank would get closer to 3/4 full and less. I was already getting ready to remove the 3rd ...

Re: Steering gear removal diy

I am back from our annual trip to PEI. My car was fully loaded with bicycles, roof box full of kids stuff, 4 people on board; You get the picture! The steering gear is now shot! It started to leak fluid just days before we started the 3500km trip. I kept 3 bottles of Valvoline DEX/MERC V with me. I ...

Re: Reattaching rear trailing arm

In order to re-attach the trailing arm rear bolt to the wheel knuckle, you need a cargo strap with a ratchet. This strap is the same kind you will use to secure cargo on a trailer. It is the only way i found to perform this task.

Re: Rear strut mount removal!

Today (july 2017), i replaced for the second time the rear right strut mount. I used this time a Moog part. I tried a different approach without success. I decided to remove the whole strut with the coil spring and strut mount as a single assembly. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DO SO! I tried to wigle the l...

Re: Steering gear removal diy

After 2 years of driving the new steering gear, it is still plenty solid. I haven't seen any visible leaks or need to had more power steering fluid in the reservoir. This last spring, i noticed that the effort to turn the wheels was somehow heavier then usual occasionnaly. I know my power steering p...

Re: 2008 Taurus X Rear sway bar bushings

...I know, i know... This local auto part store is giving my employer and myself a nice rebate on car parts. But the problem is he carries the AcDelco brand. If it wasnt for the savings, i would never put AcDelco parts on my Ford, it desserves better! In fact, most of the original FoMoCo Parts on th...
