Re: LEAKY SUNROOF DRAINS.

My wife's Freestyle had a clogged left front sunroof drain resulting in a wet driver's footwell. Used an old throttle cable to "rotoroot" and problem disappeared - for about 6 months. Problem reappeared last week and this time poking a wire down the drain wouldn't fix. I even bought some 0.095" stri...

Re: Repeated Problems with Squeaky Brakes

My guess is that they are putting some anti squeal goop or grease on the back of the pad that dries up after a while and stops working. I used to buy really cheap brake pads (on Taurus wagons) and they squealed like crazy. The better pads have a vibration absorbing material on the back of the backin...

Re: Front End click or clunk when coming on and off throttle

Sounds like the top motor mount is shot, the mount that's attached to the big strut bar Thanks for the thought but that's been replaced and is still OK. I do need to check that the arm it's mounted in is tight as I did remove it when replacing the bushing. (When it was worn out it never made much n...

Front End click or clunk when coming on and off throttle

Our Freestyle has a "mild clunk" when coming on or off the throttle while driving. It doesn't sound like CVs etc, sounds like something in the front suspension is loose and shifts slightly depending on whether the front is pulling forward or not. The top transmission mount has been replaced and is i...

Re: $8.98 Transaxle Roll Resistor Replacement

See the posts by NHI and rkneeshaw a few posts back. I replaced mine with a Rockauto part (not Dorman) last year, I took the whole bracket off, hacksawed the outer metal to remove the old one. Was easy once I realized I needed to pass the blade through the mount then fasten blad to hacksaw! I own a ...

Re: REAR SHOCK REPLACEMENT AND WRITEUP

I posted a writeup here: http://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=6429 I found the job to be a bit tough but not as bad as the post above. I used the Ford CD (with minor deviations) and the carrier to lower arm bolt came out OK IIRC so that part was not so bad. The upper nut came of...

Re: Air conditioner air flow

I've just dealt with a similar problem on our Freestyle. Cool air from driver vents, not cool from passenger side vents. I did a bit of research and decided that it was probably the passenger side air blend motor - this mixes hot and cold air to get the desired temp from pass side vents. I think onl...

Re: Back-up/Reverse Sensor network.....help please

I bought just one sensor a year or so ago from local Ford dealer. Wasn't cheap, don't remember price but maybe $60+ ?

Re: Freestyle eats brakes?

My comment was primarily directed at the "can't be fixed" part. I certainly agree that rotors do warp, and I agree that this can be fixed by a lathe, as can thickness / surface variations. It's kind of an esoteric subject and maybe not relevant to the average driver/mechanic, but there has been some...

Re: Freestyle eats brakes?

Warped rotors cannot be fixed. The become warped by overheating and improper tightening (torquing). Sorry, I have to disagree re can't be fixed. First, I think Jack is right, pulsation is not generally from "warped" but from thickness variation or maybe also surface variations from pad deposits and...

Re: Freestyle eats brakes?

If the only symptom is shimmy during braking, then simply turning the rotors should fix it, no need to replace pads if they have sufficient thickness left. I agree that using quality parts is key, I also strongly suspect that driving style / use pattern makes a big difference. My wife gets "warped r...

Re: Back-up/Reverse Sensor network.....help please

Do you have a code scanner? I have a fairly high end PC based scanner and it will read body codes which includes a number of codes for the backup alarm. Our backup alarm system never worked (bought car used) and it turned out to be a bad module. Yours is more likely a bad sensor or maybe a harness p...

Re: Ford Freestyle Haters Club

Would be interesting to see how many members ACTUALLY have had the issue with this cvt I posted a poll a few years ago re this, see http://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4955 Taking this at face value, slightly less than 20%. I'd guess that this number is high, given that most s...

FWD Rear Shock Replacement

This won't be a great how to as I did not take any pictures, but I think I can give some guidance. Our Freestyle was bouncing too much in the back, then when rotating tires saw that the RR shock was wet on the outside. Mileage only 72k which is a bit early IMO but things happen. Bought new Motorcraf...
