Re: Getting a Freestyle running that sat for several years

Any chance that where it was sitting, mice or critters have nibbled on the wiring insulation? Do you have dash lights when turning the key to "on"? Hear a clicking sound, or just silence when turning the key to start? New battery has at least 12.80v across the terminals?

Re: $8.98 Transaxle Roll Resistor Replacement

In 2009 a Volvo bushing was cheap compared to Ford dealership est. for replacement of the whole assembly. Now, an easier to use bushing, (with some sanding of the mount hole), is a better option, with better longevity.

Re: The Dreaded CVT

So with the post in mind where a recent rebuild just introduced another, maybe? fixable problem, I would decide if I liked this specific vehicle enough, with the mileage it has, to have a used transmission put in it. Before I do that I would see what Freestyles in my area are selling for. Not all Fr...

Re: How to replace a clockspring.

Ok, so its not a later one made for India. I dont know of a Freestyle specific vid or write-up. Here is a generic one, disconnect the battery first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XB-qHTVWCSQ If it looks too different inside, watch out for the ignition cylinder clip location, maybe a local repair s...

Re: 2005 Ford Freestyle limited oil change frequency

You could go 7000, but use a good oil filter that is advertised for use with extended mileage between oil changes. If you change oil at home and already have bought and used a 3000 mile oil filter, at 3500 +/- miles, just change the oil filter, catching the oil that runs out when removing the used o...

Re: CVT issue? Not sure where to start.

https://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4755 Transmission Data Error will go away when you find and fix the problem. Quite a number of failures will put the vehicle in limp mode. I would first suspect a wheel speed sensor being faulty, did you check for DTC's with a OBDII scanner, not...

Re: Ford Freestyle Original Tire Brand ?

2007 SEL AWD Ive got Goodyear Authority Advantage 215-60-17 70,000 mile warranty, 7000 miles on them. On wet streets, I can spin the front tires when taking off fast. Not impressed with the traction on the wet, stopping or going. They did ok in an inch or 2 of snow. I feel I could of made a better b...

Check for DTC's with a OBDII reader, see if there are any to report, and start from there.

Re: Preventing helicopter noise from reoccuring

As I understand it, the chrome plating on the input shaft flakes off which allows the bearing that rides on the shaft to wiggle a little with the chrome gone, and hence larger tolerances between the now nude shaft and the bearing race. Wear gets worst, and the noise starts. How do you plan to fix, r...

Re: Ford Freestyle Original Tire Brand ?

Lots of places on the internet that sell your choices of tires. Read the reviews for the tires. Some will hate, others will be shills for the retailer, see what the others say about traction in wet/snow, real tread wear vs stated tread wear, lastly, trouble if any with weather checking when exposed ...

Re: Traction Control - Clicking Sound

I dont want to be leading you off track here, but the way I understand it, both rear wheels are driven. You are saying that only one rear wheel was TURNING? I can see a rear wheel with a bald tire spinning, while the other one is slowing turning with tread and traction. I doubt ABS has anything to d...

Re: Traction Control - Clicking Sound

Traction control also known as on demand AWD, will allow both rear wheels to be driven via the driveshaft when the front wheel speed sensors notice a front wheel is spinning. Clicking noise I dont know about. Check the rubber boots over the front CVT joints for tears, a dry, bad CVT joint will click...
