Re: Transmission Issues Helicopter Sound

Used transmission, unless you are able to find the parts that are no longer available from Ford, and are able to rebuild a transmission, or spend more in labor than the vehicle is worth, for a mechanic to learn how to put new parts in it.

Re: AC Only Blows Cold when Moving

Yes, control valve. Some with this problem have advised to leave the control valve in, but either put a 1/4 inch thick nut in between the back of the C V, and the plate, or remove the C V and the spring that is in front of the C V, and put the C V in first and then the spring and the plate. Ive not ...

Re: Help. Where is the best place to buy a transmission.

Junk yard, youpullit salvage yard, some damaged Freestyles will drive at the lot, to check for the helicopter noise of soon to be transmission death. "will not go into gear", could be a few things, I imagine in your case, its short hand for wont move when its in drive and you step on the gas? Linkag...

Re: HOW TO: Add a cabin air filter (EASY)

Well, my glove box damper plunger is in the glove box now. It came disconnected from the mounting under the dash, as I was attempting to re-attach it after replacing the air filter. My cronic bad back is too bad to fool with hooking it back up right now. My A/C wasnt cooling too well, with a thermom...

Re: Freestyle as an Outback alternative?

FWD gets better hiway gas mileage than AWD AWD is on demand, you cant switch to AWD, the front wheel(s) have to spin for the rear wheels to engage. Fine for mud, slick grass, but not the best for deep sand, etc, where you want all four wheels turning to take you out. AWD can have problems with the r...

Yes. https://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3005 Page 2 look at the picture of the scroll valve. Various fixes suggested from that post on. Scroll valve, and or,AC leaking and low on freon again. Scroll valve signs are only cold above 1500 rpm, not cold at idle. Minimal cool air all ...

Re: Getting a Freestyle running that sat for several years

Any chance that where it was sitting, mice or critters have nibbled on the wiring insulation? Do you have dash lights when turning the key to "on"? Hear a clicking sound, or just silence when turning the key to start? New battery has at least 12.80v across the terminals?

Re: $8.98 Transaxle Roll Resistor Replacement

In 2009 a Volvo bushing was cheap compared to Ford dealership est. for replacement of the whole assembly. Now, an easier to use bushing, (with some sanding of the mount hole), is a better option, with better longevity.

Re: The Dreaded CVT

So with the post in mind where a recent rebuild just introduced another, maybe? fixable problem, I would decide if I liked this specific vehicle enough, with the mileage it has, to have a used transmission put in it. Before I do that I would see what Freestyles in my area are selling for. Not all Fr...

Ok, so its not a later one made for India. I dont know of a Freestyle specific vid or write-up. Here is a generic one, disconnect the battery first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XB-qHTVWCSQ If it looks too different inside, watch out for the ignition cylinder clip location, maybe a local repair s...

Re: 2005 Ford Freestyle limited oil change frequency

You could go 7000, but use a good oil filter that is advertised for use with extended mileage between oil changes. If you change oil at home and already have bought and used a 3000 mile oil filter, at 3500 +/- miles, just change the oil filter, catching the oil that runs out when removing the used o...

Re: CVT issue? Not sure where to start.

https://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4755 Transmission Data Error will go away when you find and fix the problem. Quite a number of failures will put the vehicle in limp mode. I would first suspect a wheel speed sensor being faulty, did you check for DTC's with a OBDII scanner, not...
