Re: Drivers side seat heater repair and costs
So here we go again, the bottom seat heater element is burnt out again. I can say I learned a lot about these heaters through the school of hard knox. But the part that stands out the most is exactly how cheap these heaters are............

Re: Drivers side seat heater repair and costs
I attached 2 pics from when I changed the seat back heater. In order to remove the seat back covering you need to unhook a j strip under neath the seat back. You also need to unhook the seat covering on the back of the bottom seat cover, then you need to roll up the seat back covering. Part of the s...

Re: Drivers side seat heater repair and costs
I would use an ohms meter which should show resistance. Mine showed about 4 - 8 ohms as I recall. If you get an infinite reading at the seatheater or "0" then you have an open circuit. (try pushing on the seat heater in different places to prove there is a short circuit in the heater pad) You should...

Re: Drivers side seat heater repair and costs
Updated info on seat heaters I got one of the back seat heaters from dorman and installed it. Just to confirm the previous results, the seat heater now works because it is wired in series from the bottom heater to the back heater and the short circuit is now eliminated. I think i went about this the...

Re: Drivers side seat heater repair and costs
   Being stubborn just paid off !!!!!!!! I used the diagram above and seperated each part of the circuit. The short story is this, When you have an open circuit on this system (the indicator light will blink) on then off each time you push the button. The heaters ( seat bottom and...

Re: Drivers side seat heater repair and costs
I tried to find a diagnostic flow chart with no success. I also tried to buy a Haynes or Chilton book with no luck either. I went on a gut feeling and a lot of luck when I fixed my seat heater which is still working awesome. Also the Ford dealer kind of clinched it when they said that the heater pad...

Re: Possible leak from Transmission to Engine
I have not taken the car to a dealer yet but I plan on checking the fluid and possible leak a little more before I take it in, so I can hopefully be more informed when it comes to talking with the dealer. The best part is it does not seem like a common problem.

Re: Possible leak from Transmission to Engine
Thanks for the replies.
The fluid is definately in between the trany and engine. The oil is never left behind on the driveway or garage floor, but as advised I will take it to a dealer for a check out.
I will report back any info that comes from this.

Hello I have an 07 freestyle with 63k kms on it and it is new to me in Jun 2009. Re: Drivers side seat heater repair and costs
When I bought it I was told it is an 07 Freestyle Limited all the bells and whistles. Also the carfax report said the car was delivered to a Hamilton dealer in May 06 and sold in May 06. My previous car was a 06 jetta delivered in may 05, it was probably built in March or April that year. Any way th...

Re: Drivers side seat heater repair and costs
Thanks for your reply.
The information I have indicates the in service date as May 2006 also it is at 63000 km. I checked with a local dealer, who said 3 years and 60,000 km. I am not sure but does that mean the whole warranty is finished or is there still power train warranty ?
