Re: Removal of front right CV axle? 2004 Freestyle

Problem is common to all FWD axles. Without a dedicated tool such as a slide hammer, the axle can be terribly difficult to remove. I found some very good home made solutions on you tube. I made my own puller using a 10lb sledge hammer.

BTW, FreeSTYLE forum here, not FreeSTAR.

Valvoline CVT fluid-Walmart. The Ford CVT-30 transmission is listed on the back. Did a complete fluid exchange by removing the cooler hoses-11 qts. Nearly 50,000 miles no issues. Hit 271,000 miles this week.

Re: Freestyle steering problem

Most experiencing the issue you describe have success simply lubricating the steering joint behind the driver wheel. You can reach it fairly easily from the top. Spray the heck out of it with the spray lube of your choice. Alas, the fix is usually temporary and ultimately the joint needs replacing. ...

Re: Need Help 08 Taurus X ball joint play

'05 Freestyle AWD - replaced control arms x 2 over 12 years of ownership as they would fail safety inspections due to excess play. Ball joint is part of the control arm on the Freestyle. Job is minor, if you can do brakes you can replace the control arm. $623 each sounds excessive, even for a dealer...

Re: '05 FreeStyle 152K Rough Idle, Acceleration Lagging, Stalling

P0354 = misfire on cyl no. 4. Lucky for you cyl no. 4 is easily accessible - passenger side nearest radiator. Or, as you are standing in front of the car looking at the engine, cyl no. 4 is the front, left cylinder. A simple test is to swap coils and see if the misfire follows. For instance, swap co...

the loop pointing down, not attched, is a vent from the CVT. All of them have that set up, hooks up to nothing

Re: What is the normal voltage range for the EGR DPFE signal

I've also experienced EGR trouble on a high mileage 2005 Freestyle LTD AWD. Mine was a short in the harness between the EGR and the PCM. The previous poster had electrical problems as well. It would be worth checking continuity of the of the harness wires to the PCM. The harness wiggle test would be...

what is the code when this happens? many of us have Ford manuals and may be able to provide pin point guidance for troubleshooting if we know the code.

Re: Knocking sound

Clicking or light, steady knocking while turning can be the CV joint as mentioned. Clunking can be end link damage/warr or simply hitting/rubbing steering stops on full turns. Steady grinding or whining that goes up and down with vehicle speed is likely the wheel bearing.

Re: Trailing Arm / Lateral Link

I replaced the same part after it was severely bent from a rear end hit on the freeway. I don't remember having any trouble with the bolt. I suspect it is just rust. Try a hammer. Mine had none of the deep corrosion seen on yours. Yours looks to have sat ankle deep in the ocean for a few years.

Re: Starter replacement 05 Freestyle

always test your battery, at least with a voltmeter. headlights can seem normal with a weak battery. look for at least 12 volts though it may start in the high 11 range (normal fully charged is 12.6volts). If you dont have a voltmeter then simply try jump starting the car. next try tapping and rappi...

Re: Awd malfunction

that type of noise is typically a wheel bearing going/gone bad, especially since noise goes away in a turn. if the noise changes pitch with speed it will nearly always be the wheel bearing. awd light is on possibly because the wheel bearing i believe houses the abs sensor which is part of the awd sy...

10,000 miles on General Altimax RT43 - 2005 Freestyle AWD. Ordered and installed via Walmart.com/Walmart. Around $95 each, soft riding, very quiet, great tread wear to date. Have these on 3 cars at the moment, very satisfied. Sidewalls are very soft compared to other tires in this class leading to a...

Re: Deep vibration at 1300-1700 RPMRGR

loss of power and EGR failure could point to a clogged catalytic converter, specifically the cat just in front of the resonator/muffler. does not address the trans codes but might be worth a look/test. d
