Re: I took my 2005 Freestyle (with 133k miles) on a 3000 mile family road trip!

There have been posts on other forums that report the ZF Sacs NIVOMAT self-leveling shock is used on the AWD Freestyle, 500, and Montego. If you Google "Nivomat" you'll see that MercuryVehicles.com does, in fact, state that the Montego uses that shock on the rear of the AWD version. I had the rear ...

Re: I took my 2005 Freestyle (with 133k miles) on a 3000 mile family road trip!

My 2005 did not have any sort of automatic ride height capability. I wish it did, since it does squat significantly when loaded down with kids, luggage, and pretty rocks. Also can you tell me how you replaced the rear struts and mounts? Ive been looking online and everyone I seen that did it skipped...

Re: Some insights on replacing the CVT transmission

could have been a design change, my 2005 definately had the bracket. The PTU itself is just two gears on some bearings. If they sound the same when turning by hand, I would most likely re-use the 2005 with the bracket. Otherwise, you could drill & tap the case on the newer model. If you give the PTU...

Re: F2 fuse for 07 Freestyle keeps blowing

I don't have access to the 2007 FSM right now, but here's the diagram from the 2006. The Battery Junction Box fuse panel does not have a fuse in the F2 spot, but the Smart Junction Box under the driver dash does. Re: Gear case hose lines

It's common for this hose to deteriorate over time. It connects to a metal vent pipe on the transmission directly below the EGR valve, and runs up to the throttle body where it clips on to another hose and just makes a "U" bend and is left open. I replaced the U-Bend with a small section of stainles...

Re: If you were going to part out a Freestyle then...

My question is if you had access to a Limited with split rear seats and DVD and AWD, what parts would you keep? <snip> I just don't want to overlook some parts that have value that should be removed before the car goes to the crusher. You will not need any special tools just to crack the transmissi...

Re: Charging System

For those that claim that voltage regulators don't talk to a PCM, Ford has been using that system now since 2003 or 2004. I had this exact issue. On my Freestyle, I replaced with a Motorcraft reman alternator, from the dealership. The alternator I received worked perfectly, kept the battery charged...

Re: Some insights on replacing the CVT transmission

Keep in mind that if you remove the PTU from the transmission with it still in the car, you need to remove the passenger half-shaft, as it goes through the PTU into the transmission. Once the passenger hub is removed from the halfshaft spline, only two bolts on a carrier bearing keep it in the car. ...

Re: LED headlight conversion

I purchased the JDM LED headlights from Amazon. Plug and Play installation. They do not flash during operation, however I have noticed when I use the keyfob to unlock the car, they flash once quickly and then stay off until the car is started. Also, the position of the LEDs inside the housing probab...

Re: Sub install question.

You will have a VERY difficult time fabricating a box out of MDF to fit in the stock location. I have the audiophile system, and the sub box is surprisingly large for it's location. You MAY be able to fabricate one out of fiberglass, I've seen builds where people have placed thick plastic over the m...

Re: EGR VALVE Question

EGR valve not operating correctly will throw a check engine light, with an associated code. If you are not getting any codes from the ECU, you may have accidently disconnected a coil pack or injector. I would test, with the engine running at idle, by unplugging each injector in sequence and see if o...

Re: Driver side mirror returns to default position ...

Keep in mind that the Freestyle came with two keyfobs. Each keyfob is paired to a different number on the door. There is no way to know which is which, except to set an extreme seat location on each number, and see what setting is activated when the keyfob is operated.

Re: Wiper pump still not working... argghh

The washer pump on the Freestyle is a two-way design. You will not have a dedicated "hot" and "ground" at the washer pump. If you apply voltage and ground, the motor will spin and output on one pipe, if you reverse voltage and ground it will spin opposite and output on the other pipe. The washer pum...

Re: Wiper pump still not working... argghh

There is only one washer pump on my 2005. It is located at the bottom of the windshield washer reservoir, and has two outlets - one for the front, and one for the back. I have a copy of the FSM for the 2005/2006 Ford Lineup, I'll pull the relevant pages for the washer pump and post them here. 2005_F...
