Re: Freestyle CVT Repair In Progress

Found a video explaining common problems and causes.

These guys suggest a design flaw in the torque convertor is causing the input shaft o-ring failures.

Freestyle CVT Repair In Progress

Just cracked open my CVT30 in my 2005 Freestyle, was experiencing the helicopter noise. Followed the TSB and monitored the PID for the input shaft, and it performed exactly as the TSB stated. Helicopter noise in Park and Neutral, switched to Drive and noise went away as TSS_SRC went to zero. As the ...

Re: Preventing helicopter noise from reoccuring

Havent gotten the case halves split yet, so i havent been able to inspect the bearing surface. However, the O-Ring at the end of the input shaft is just gone. No trace of an O-Ring on the shaft, no shards in the torque converter, nothing.

Re: Removal of front right CV axle? 2004 Freestyle

On the right side of the car, the CV axle is super long. There is a support that needs to come off to get the axle out. 2 bolts, both able to be reached from the wheel well with a fairly long extension.

Preventing helicopter noise from reoccuring

Just pulled my trans out of my 2005 Freestyle AWD. Mileage is +/- 100k, and CVT had never been serviced. I've read tons on the cause of the helicopter noise, identify what parts are damaged, and how to replace the damaged components. Has there been any research into how to keep the new input shaft f...

Re: CVT "helicopter" noise - input shaft specs

Hi I fixed mine a couple of years ago and can send you some sizes tomorrow if you want. I had a good input shaft that could be measured by guy I sent it to if he hasn’t installed it yet. Let me know I check this a few times a day. Jim in wintry (finally) BC Yes, please! Even if I end up purchasing ...

Re: CVT "helicopter" noise - input shaft specs

I'm hesitant to just buy a random input shaft from eBay, My ultimate goal is to keep this from happening again. "Do it Once - Do it Right"™

Has a root cause been identified yet?

CVT "helicopter" noise - input shaft specs

2005 Freestyle Limited AWD Mine started making the noise about 2 years ago. It's been parked since then. I'm reading the noise is caused by a scored input shaft. And the input shafts are very hard to find at a reasonable price. At work we have a full machine shop capable of welding the shaft and the...

Re: "Failsafe mode" & "Check Engine" light

Looks like I just got bit by the bug. 2005 Ford Freestyle Limited AWD - about 40K miles Was letting the wife's little sister take some laps around a parking lot, asked her to stop and put the car in reverse - engine died and MIL (check engine light) came on - with the accompanying "Engine Failsafe M...
