Re: Taurus X Rear Brakes

I have a '08 Taurus X with 19.8K miles on it. The rear brakes are worn to 5% now, fronts are probably 15% left in tread. I called the dealer in Schaumburg, IL to see if they would replace them under warranty. No luck. They were nice about it and looked up svc bulletins, but could find nothing in th...

Re: X - Roof Rack Cross Bars

I will go one step further to inquire why even on most late model SUVs, no cross bars are installed at the factory? It seems that the functionality of these "roof racks" has taken a back seat on most vehicles, not just our FS/X cars. To this day, I believe the factory moveable crossbar/independent ...

Re: X - Roof Rack Cross Bars

Another advantage of using the the Yakima Railgrabbers is they are very easy to put on and take off (5 minutes). So you do not have to leave them on the car, which results in better fuel economy when you do not need them. I can clip or unclip the bars from the Yakima Landing Pads in less than a min...

Re: X - Roof Rack Cross Bars

To this day, I believe the factory moveable crossbar/independent moveable tie downs rail system on my old 1995 Ford Explorer is the best out there, period. Very versatile with zero wind noise. Ditto on my old '93 Explorer and '98 Taurus...the sliding crossbars on both were simple to use, easily adj...

Re: X - Roof Rack Cross Bars

No, normally go with Thule stuff, but my ex wife pawned off my last rack... won't get into it. hahaha. Next question: using the 24" up front, would that stick a box too far forward? I think so. That's why I went with the different solution I proposed to get the cargo box further back out of the air...

Re: Taurus X Rear Brakes

I just had my rear brakes on my 2008 Taurus X replaced and the rear rotors turned at 50,000 miles. Front brakes were fine. Many of Ford's cars have bad rear brakes that wear way faster than the front. They used to need replacing at only 20,000 miles or so. They got a very bad Consumer Reports rating...

Re: Lost a bolt in the frame rail

Got impatient and didn't take my time with my install, and didn't have anyone that was able to bench press the hitch from underneath, which caused me to lose the forward most driver side bolt in the rail. Is there a way to remove it, or do I just buy a new bolt and washer plate and leave the other ...

Re: installing a hitch

How heavy was the load you were hauling, to bend the hitch? The hitch you speak of must be poorly constructed or weak metal was used and did you not get a replacement of the same kind? I would be afraid to use it. The Hidden Hitch I have would be impossible to bend. It would rip out of the rails lo...

Re: What's your MPG?

San Jose to Tahoe over July 4th weekend in my Taurus X FWD.

Going upill, lots of stopped traffic, 225 miles in 7h 45m: 18.0 MPG

Coming back downhill, little traffic, 225 miles in 4h 18m: 26.4 MPG

Going was traffic torture. Coming back, I held the speed to between 65 and 68 MPH.

Re: What's your MPG?

Mick, I only turn off my engine on longer lights - a minute or more. I know it helps as the MPG indicator only drops slightly. If I don't turn off then engine, I can watch it slowly creep even lower. I also really like my Taurus X (about the same as Freestyle). All around nice. Large, comfortable, s...

Re: What's your MPG?

Then your engine needs a tune up mate :-) Your language indicates maybe you're using the Imperial Gallon, which I think is a bit bigger than the US gallon? Also, do actually you see that great mileage at the pump, or just read from the car's indicator? I have the Taurus X FWD which isn't as good as...

Re: What's your MPG?

I agree; the vehicle's computer is optimistic on fuel economy. I figured 24.8 mpg; the computer said 25.2 mpg for the trip. Fully 90 percent of driving was high-speed. Otherwise, this spring, wife has been averaging 18.5 mpg commuting to/from work, 30-45 mph, all on surface streets. Our old '99 Gra...

Re: What's your MPG?

I got 13,6 liters per 100km for now (dont really know how to wright it in MPG) but Im driving pretty aggressively in my opinion According to this web site: http://www.teaching-english-in-japan.net/conversion/mpg 13.6 liters/100km is about 17 MPG. That's pretty low, but about to be expected for city...

Re: What's your MPG?

With our 2009 Taurus X, on a recently-completed, 1400-mile trip from Omaha to the Door County (WI) peninsula and back, we averaged 24.8 mpg, mostly 70-75 mph expressway/freeway, lots of hills, A/C on 50 percent of the time, 55-80-degree temps, three adults and stuff on board. 2009 Ford Taurus X SEL...
