Feels like there's a misfire, but no codes.

My best seems to have an issue that has me puzzled. At the beginning of March, my wife and I were heading out on a roadtrip. We had only gone about 25 miles when I heard a pop and the vehicle started having problems. Considering the weather (COLD!!) it ultimately required replacing the alternator, w...

Re: Charging System

Thanks for your response. I installed a brand new Motorcraft alternator, not a rebuild. No codes and everything seems to be working. It's been a month and I've not had any charging system issues nor any codes.

Re: My gauges just went out!

I recently had the same issue in my '07 SEL FWD.

Installing a Motorcraft alternator resolved the issue.

Re: Charging System

Do yourself a favor, do not use an aftermarket alternator on the Freestyle or Taurus X. If you do, you have roughly only a 20% chance of the aftermarket alternator working correctly. It has to do with the aftermarket re-manufacturers use of the least expensive parts in the voltage regulators. The vo...

Re: AC Only Blows Cold when Moving

Try replacing the control valve, which is located on the back of the a/c compressor. The part is about $35 and can be purchased from RockAuto, or from Amazon. You will need to to evacuate the system of freon. Then, all it tracks is a 10mm wrench and 10 minutes of your time. Recommend that you wait t...

Re: [walkthrough] How to replace an alternator on a Freestyle

I can't believe what I'm reading. Arkansas.Tom posted a one off. But alternators do NOT communicate with PCMs. He's an idiot. Yes there is some altruism to be respected when it comes to factory part quality and all but this rant was a mistake. I know this is old, but it is still worth a response tw...

Re: O2 Oxygen Sensor? 06 Freestyle P0133 P0138

There are actually three O2 sensors in the 2005 to 2007 Freestyle. There is an O2 sensor upstream of each of the catalytic converters and one located downstream.

Use a proper OBD2 code reader to detirmine the correct faulty sensor.

Have any Hams installed 2m/440 Mhz into their Freestyle?

CQ de KC4WVL Purchased my FS about 3 months ago and planning to install a Yeasu FT-90 2m/440 transceiver in the near future. I have checked at the local Ford Dealer to see if they have any documentation regarding the 'Manufacturer's Recomendations'. They didn't. Thus, the question now goes ou...

In early May, I purchased my Freestyle FWD SEL. I can't be happier with it. The ride is smooth and solid. At highway speeds, the cabin is quiet. Far quieter than my 04 Focus ZTW. Additionally, the 24.4/28.5 MPG :D (average) is a plus, considering the size and weight of the vehicle. The only thing th...
