Re: New to freestyles have 3 electrical issues plz help?

for the first problem, try wiggling the key in the ignition switch and see if it makes the lights turn off and on. I had an issue on my '07 where the switch was getting a little worn, and the side-effect was having the interior dome lights come on occasionally. IN terms of the brake light, the deale...

Sadly, leaving the Freestyle camp after nearly 6 years

Hi, folks. After nearly 6 years of pleasant ownership, we traded our Freestyle a couple of weeks ago on a new Acura MDX. Our normal ownership of vehicles is 3-4 years max, but the Freestyle was something we really liked and held onto it longer than any vehicle for the past 25 years - which says a lo...

Traded the Montego, but still have the Freestyle

Hi there - Haven't been in the forum for a while, as the 'Tego and the Freestyle have both been doing well. Swapped rides with the wife last summer as I needed the hauling that the Freestyle provided, and the wife was living the good life in the Montego. As you can guess, after a few months of drivi...

Re: 215/65-17 replacement suggestions??

All- I realize this subject has been brought up many times, but a quick search revealed the subject of tires had not been discussed in a while and just wanted an update on your experiences and suggestions. If you search my postings, I previously wanted suggestions on a snow tire to replace our Good...

Re: Surging Problem

It's interesting to see so many of our FS's starting to surge - must be the age when this sort of thing starts. About a month ago our 07 AWD with 63k started to surge in similar situations - hot day, A/C on, shift into R or D. Would surge after it started to move - scared the bejeezers out of me eve...

Re: Is it necessary to change the filter with CVT fluid chan

I believe the filter housing is an 8 mm bolt that takes either a T - 25 or T- 27 tool. The 8 mm bolt is about 3 / 16 of an inch in diameter. As such, I think the mechanic is misleading you. The only large bolts encountered in changing the filter are the 13 and 15 mm bolts that hold the transmission...

Re: Is it necessary to change the filter with CVT fluid chan

I haven't been in the forum for a while, but thought I'd pop in and share a real-time experience... The wife's '07 FS AWD has 57k miles, and I'm at the dealer (waiting area borrowing some internet) now getting the CVT fluid/filter change done. Arranged to have the fluid and high-pressure filter repl...

Re: Any Five Hundred Owners?

I own a 2007 Mercury Montego Premier AWD - essentially the same car as the wife's 2007 Ford Freestyle Limited AWD. As such, I get to drive them back-to-back quite a bit. Here's how I can summarize how they differ: - Performance in accelleration is almost the same - both at speed and from a stop - si...

Re: for ALL the Experts: Gear position at Oil/Filter change?

hi all, on another post, someone (glenncof) mentioned that the Gear needs to be on NEUTRAL when the Oil and filter change is being done ( http://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1255&highlight=cvt ). is this correct? what would be the outcome, IF it was in "PARK"......any negatives ??...

Re: Whining in reverse. Normal?

The CVT has a fairly distinctive sound when moving in reverse - somewhat more similar in sound to a manual tranny car than a typical automatic. Both of our CVT's have done it since new and haven't changed in the time we've owned them.

Re: Intermittent Hard Steering

Another known issue is the input shaft to the steering rack. The brass flange near the top will tend to wear over time, and depending on how the shavings get passed into the rack, it can cause odd behavior in the steering feel and sound (I had this happen to our 07 with about 37k miles) - only solut...

Re: Hmmm....

Today we had snow that was really wet and lots of slush. I've got 4 snows on my AWD montego, and I was having a hard time keeping things going in the forward and straight direction. What I noticed is that when I needed traction, the AWD was kicking in before the TC did - and the TC only kicked in on...

Re: Trails?

I agree with others that the issue with the Freestyle isn't the AWD system, but rather the ground clearance and stance of the car. In our case, the lower stance is exactly why we bought one for my wife. And her previous vehicle is one that actually would suit your needs much better - the previous ge...

Re: Issue: Driving down on hill/slope with snowy road condit

Also (assuming your driving situation is on snow and/or ice), it could be the tires that are also contributing to the situation. I agree that what you're describing is the ABS working, and while it's unnerving in terms of a sound, it's doing it's job. But I can share that what you're feeling is simi...

Re: Which Freestyle Does Not Have a CVT Transmission?

The sedan version of the FS (ford 500 or Mercury Montego) has a 6-speed auto if you get the FWD version, and the AWD versions have the CVT. if you don't need the rear hatch/wagon aspect of our cars, and really don't want the CVT, then that's an avenue you can take. I've got 2 vehicles with the CVT a...
