Re: Changing Shifter Cable

You will need to pull the console out and then remove the shifter assy. with the cable. The cable has a boot where it goes thru the firewall just above the gas pedal, there are 2 nuts you will need to remove from that first.

I've got a set of gray Husky mats (front and rear) left over from my 2005 FS. $20 plus shipping.

Re: 2005 freestyle 193,000 miles making loud noise on idle and whines in reverse

You have to be more descriptive. Is the noise a singular bang or thud? Is it a whine that happens at all times in reverse...etc etc
FIFY.

If it sounds like a helicopter in park, your trans is going out. IDK what you mean by sounds like a manual - does it whine?

And now it all works fine? Sounds like at least your battery is dead. The electronics go all freaky sometimes when the battery craps out.

Just pull the smart junction box out of your vehicle and the sticker is on the back.

Re: Rattling noise ~2krpm, could it be fuel pump?

Fuel pumps don't usually make any noise, they just quit. I would look to the exhaust - honeycomb broken loose inside the cat or perhaps loose heat shield.

Sounds to me like the problem is with the air diverter system under the dash. Does rear AC work?

Re: Steering wheel/airbag removal

All I can tell you is that you just gotta fiddle with it until it gives up and comes out. They are finicky. I have more trouble getting them to engage and hold the air bag in place when I am putting it back on than I do taking if off.

Re: PCM replacement

That is a very sticky wicket. You will need a dealer or other provider with the proper software to reprogram those modules with your VIN. Why are you replacing the PCM?

Re: Front AC vs. front and rear AC?

I live in Texas and I run the rear AC on low all the time. It's better for the system if there is some air flow across both of the evaporator cores.
