Re: 2007 Ford freestyle awd transmission swap

If you can, get the ECU and the ABS module (only the electrical part, no need to open the hydraulic lines) from the donor and put them on your car. That is much easier than finding someone to flash your trans controller.

Re: 2007 Ford freestyle awd transmission swap

The trans will work without it, but your ABS and TC will not work unless the trans, ECU and ABS module all agree on VIN.

Re: 200000 miles

My wife's FS went 235K before we sold it. Mine is at 185K but I did the 6-speed swap so maybe it won't count when I get there.

Re: Swap 500 6 sp into Freestyle possible.

Anyone ever try the Aisin AWF-21 6speed awd trans from a Fusion? I have access to one of these right now and my 2006 AWD freestyle is dying for the second time since I have owed it. I love the car just hate the CVT. Be a pioneer! If you can successfully put an AWD 6-speed in a Freestyle, you will b...

Re: Freestyle CVT Repair In Progress

I am no help, I just yanked mine out and put in a 6-speed. Mine did not have the helicopter noise, it just moaned loudly like a bad PS pump. However, it still worked perfectly. I took it apart looking for the source of the noise but to no avail. I can only figure it was the TC. Good luck on your rep...

The ECU and the trans module need to agree on VIN.

Re: Mice in cabin - Solution!

I already said you were right and I was wrong about this, I apologize that I offended you further. It's just that neither of us responding here have ever heard of this being a problem so we are just puzzled as to how this could actually happen. If it is as easy to make happen as you say, it seems we...

Re: Swap 500 6 sp into Freestyle possible.

Just checked the 2006 Five Hundred brochure and same goes there - optional on FWD. So, if you can, you will need to find a 500 without TC and then get the ECU, the ABS module, and the trans module off of it and put it on your car. Either that, or you need someone who can flash your trans module with...

Re: Swap 500 6 sp into Freestyle possible.

OK so I just went and looked at the 2006 FS brochure and traction control is optional on all FWD models, standard on AWD. I've never seen an FS without TC. Agree with your assessment - all I can tell you is that I have done 2 of these swaps and, in both cases, the ABS modules matched up. Mine has th...

Re: Mice in cabin - Solution!

Is your FS a convertible? Because there is not headroom for an adult to stand up in the 3rd row.

Re: Swap 500 6 sp into Freestyle possible.

You do not change the entire ABS unit, you just swap the electronics module. You do not open the brake hydraulic system at all.

All 500s and Freestyles have traction control.

Re: Mice in cabin - Solution!

Have a look under your car before you post. OK, time to fess up and eat crow. You are right and I am wrong. I thought you were saying they are on the floor between rows 1 & 2. They are, in fact, on the floor between rows 2 & 3. Having said that, I have owned an FS and been on this board since about...

Re: Mice in cabin - Solution!

Why Ford thought it was a good idea to put a giant plastic plug (think, coffee can lid) in TWO places on the floor where adults will step on them and possibly fall THROUGH the floor is beyond me. IDK what you are talking about - those plugs are there so that the fuel pump can be serviced without ta...

Re: Service CVT or drive it until it breaks?

I vote for change it, but I don't trust the dealer. I do mine myself. If you gotta take it in, just make sure they do not hook it up to a machine and check to see what fluid they are using.
