Re: to keep or not? 2005 Ford Freestyle SE 65,775 miles

I don't recommend putting undercoat on an older car. It will only hide the rust, not stop it once started. I've seen the stuff peeled off and the metal would peel off with it.
I agree about the rubber based. It is worse than nothing.

Re: No throttle response, wrench/engine light, lack of gear

This sounds to be a different problem, LunchBox. Elephant's issue could be a TB but rocking the vehicle back and forth could have ripped a motor mount. Often one can then tear the rubber hose from the air filter to the TB. You'd then lose the mass air sensor function. It won't run more than an idle....

Re: Full Tank - Gas Smell

Not getting any codes maybe your drive conditions. The temperature has to be around 70+- some. You need to start the car cold of at least 8 hours, not running. The tank needs to be 1/4 to 3/4 full. You need to drive at slow hiway speed of about 45 to 55, continuously for about 5 to ten minutes. Driv...

Door open sensor

I confirmed that the door open sensor is connected to the latch. The other day, while working on the dash I wanted to disable the buzzer. I held the handle open and push the latch piece in the door jam in. It silenced the buzzer. Do remember to unlatch the mechanism by pulling the handle and rotatin...

Re: What is this?

You'll need a puller for the wipers. A small gear puller works.

Re: Super vs. Regular

Higher octane gas generally has lower energy per gallon. Ethanol has lower energy per gal and is sometimes used to boost octane rating. Running higher octane may increase or decrease the MPG. Still it is not the engine design for the Freestyle. Because the higher octane burns at a lower temperature,...

Re: What is this?

It could be a temperature sensor or a knock detector. You should be able to find it in the diagrams at the end of the electrical manual.

Re: High Quality Wiper Blades

I recently bought a Michelin brand with the solid plastic back. I'm not impressed. It leaves streaks on a clean windshield. The metal backed ones are getting hard to find but clearly work better. There was a time when one could by refill blades. Then one had to replace the metal back, with the blade...

Re: Throttle Body/Transmission issue solved!

As far as the wiper wearing the resistor out, I wish they'd made that part replaceable. They made it a large piece that is the entire side cover. On TB, that are cable driven, there is a newer type of position sensor that everyone says is better. It have been nice if we could use the newer type on o...

Re: Throttle Body/Transmission issue solved!

I think it is a double problem. I suspect the computer problem is the reaction of the computer to a dirty TB. When mine started acting up it put me in the limp home mode, the third time it lunged. I did a thorough cleaning of the TB and it is happy again. My guess is that it is mostly fine dirt, tha...

Just remember to NOT use ordinary transmission fluid. It will quickly destroy your transmission. There are many horror stories of people taking them to the dealer and having them use ATF.

Re: Re-sale value.

Making such sound in N and P would indicate the belt is ready to fail. I wouldn't depend on that car to go across the street. That sound means something is hitting something else. That would usually be the case. Small particles of aluminum are make a mess of the rest of the transmission.

Water pump in the oil, what were they thinking? I find that hard to believe. That is even worse then Subaru's water pump driven by the timing belt. Even new water pumps may leak a tiny amount while breaking in the seal.

Re: License plate light 05 FREESTYLE

One wonders why the dealer couldn't look in the schematic, as I did and see that it couldn't have been the Smart Junction Box. I'll admit, I spend much of my day looking at machine generated schematics but the Ford schematics are like a puzzle box. You look here to find the reference that directs yo...
