Re: Looking to buy

Paying too much, salvage title. They arent bad vehicles, the water pump can fail at some time in the life of the vehicle, and leak water into the cylinders and the engine is trashed. Freestyles you just replace the water pump, as its external to the engine block. Freestyles had the 3.0 Duratec thou...

Re: CVT Top off when changing just the HP filter...

Just remember to NOT use ordinary transmission fluid. It will quickly destroy your transmission. There are many horror stories of people taking them to the dealer and having them use ATF. Dwight Absolutely! Not even a "universal" cvt fluid that says it meets the spec is going to be used. I don't wa...

Re: CVT Top off when changing just the HP filter...

Check it with the dipstick after, or, measure what runs out in a pan, and put that much back in. 1 quart is all you need to buy, wont take all of that. HP filter that was installed when they built the CVT had metal ends, Ford HP filter from the dealer has black plastic ends. That Ford replacement f...

Re: CVT Top off when changing just the HP filter...

The biggest potential issue will be stripping the two Torx head bolts. Use the correct attachment when taking the bolts out. Ask me how I know. That would indeed suck. I have proper, good quality torx bit sets that fit onto 1/4" and 3/8" drive... so long as I pick the correct one... <fingers-...

Ans reading this.. I’m scared
Why?

Clean your throttle body before there is an issue and there won't be one. The only thing "scary" about the 500/Montego/Freestyle is CVT maintenance, reliability and longevity and the costs associated with them.

CVT Top off when changing just the HP filter...

As in the Subject/title... I know my CVT has had the fluid changed, lower pan was removed, can only suppose the filter there was replaced. I actually suspect that the entire transmission was either replaced or rebuilt about 2000 miles ago, about 600 miles before I bought it, given how many times it ...

Re: Double DIN Stereo Install

How do you know which wires go where though are the colors the same Sometimes they are... The new adaptor harness will tell you what colors are what, either printed on the wires themselves or in a chart. Those get matched up to the radio wires, which are also usually printed with their function (pl...

Re: Double DIN Stereo Install

Hey i was wondering how you knew which wires went where on the wiring harness Do you mean the wiring adapter harness? You buy one that is vehicle/mfg specific ... that plugs into t eh factory plugs on the vehicle's harness. The other end gets spliced into the radio's plug. The bare wires for each a...

Ok what about a 01-11 ranger 1piece assembly would they be close
Define "close".

No.. man... no. Sorry. Where the similarities stop is that they are both somewhat "rectangular" in that they have four sides.

Re: Tranmission swap

I know you're also going to need the PATS from the donor, as well as I think the ignition switch.. possibly the entire ignition lock/switch assembly. You have to make sure you address the ignition key security component of this as well. I did some cursory research on this myself (just in case). All ...

Re: Cvt problem p701.

Unfortunately, my old mechatronic system is currently in trans, I'm just worried that it doesn't work There are troubleshooting steps and such that can help determine if the mechatronics are faulty... mostly in the Ford Service Manual and guided scan tool diagnostics. If your mechanic does not have...

Re: Cvt problem p701.

The TCM is built into the mechatronic unit, I believe... so if your old one is good, then I would tend to think you could install it into the new transmission (I hesitate to call it a "gearbox", as there are no gears in a CVT).

Re: Cvt problem p701.

Yes, you'd have to know for certain that the replacement gearbox is good- ifit is not, then there is no point in proceeding.

Normally, in Western Europe or the US, I'd suggest hauling it to a Ford dealership or Ford specialist shop. I take it that there are none in your area?

Re: Shaking at stops

You need to clean your throttle body. How often does the throttle body needs cleaned and or replaced? We just bought this freestyle at a used dealership and so far we had to fix an engine misfire, and the water pump. All the routine maintenance needed to be done completely, I'm reading and seeing a...
