Re: to keep or not? 2005 Ford Freestyle SE 65,775 miles

To fellow lovers of it please help me decide whether I should trade it in and if so for what? I purchased it new July, 2005 and has been the best auto yet (64 yrs I am). My concern is running into large ongoing repair costs and kicking myself for not trading it in while it still holds some value. T...

Re: 273k miles. No CVT Fluid/H.P. Filter change!

I’ve been the owner since 2005. Never have touched the CVT. Still running great How many miles? If over 150k, I'd be worried I was on borrowed time. New fluid never hurt anything when changed regularly. You've had it this long, and it's still going... so I guess if it went out tomorrow, you sure di...

Re: Need help with fluid level

Last night I warmed it up and checked the fluid. It was low so I added a quart and took it for a spin. It started acting up and the wrench light came on after about 3 miles. I limped it home and checked the fuild again. Its now at the bottom of the crosss hatches. Its throwing P0701, just like befo...

Re: Tranmission swap

Could one use the drivetrain from a T Rex for this swap? Its got the much better 6 spd and is still awd as well. It should also bolt right in pretty easy. Gator A good question...depending on physical size, I had also wondered if it would fit and be able to retain the AWD functions. First question ...

Re: CVT Issue

I do wonder if the problem is due to the feed tube seals on the mechatronic assembly and/or the variator circuit seals as mentioned in this article. Most of the codes it talks about at the front of the article on p4 are what was present. https://atracom.blob.core.windows.net/gears/2013/2013-10/2013...

Re: What is this?

I've been able to get to the PCM and measured with a test meter - the wiring to the camshaft sensor is good. So - the sensor is good (new sensor), the wiring is good - this would leave the pcm itself? Quite possibly...but before I condemned such an expensive part, I'd want to see live sensor output...

Re: Rear diff is impossible to remove.

FSM 205-02-8, Rear axle removal. The Freestyle specifically states to remove the rear anti-sway bar. It looks like on the Five Hundred/Montego, we can get away with just undoing the endlinks and positioning the bar forward, out of the way. @jas88 I did not see in my manual where it states to remove ...

Re: What is this?

I've found out what it is - ignition coil capacitor - to eliminate noise from the ignition getting to the sound system. - strange shape for a capacitor. Now to more serious problems - Code P0430 - camshaft position sensor circuit error. The sensor has been replaced by the person I bought the car fr...

Re: Super vs. Regular

The price here has come down to 77.4/lit this week If I'm doing my math right, this is about $2.93 (Canadian) per U.S. gallon, or about $2.34 (U.S.) per U.S. gallon. (The Canadian dollar is currently trades at about 80 cents U.S.) We're pushing a $1.50 per U.S. gallon around here, and with oil now ...

It could be a temperature sensor or a knock detector. You should be able to find it in the diagrams at the end of the electrical manual.

Factory Service Manuals- I haz them.

I have an 06 Montego Premier, not an FS... but nonetheless, I picked up a set of the FSM, both volumes plus the wiring diagram book, MY06, but others similar, obviously. If anyone needs a scanned PDF of any procedures, specifications or information contained within these volumes, please contact me a...

Re: What is this?

Can't quite tell.. where on the engine are we looking here? backside, near water pump/thermostat? Given the grounded block...and only one wire, if I had to guess I'd say that's a noise suppressor for the ignition system (or another high voltage circuit) so as to not cause interference with the radio...

Re: Looking to buy

Paying too much, salvage title. They arent bad vehicles, the water pump can fail at some time in the life of the vehicle, and leak water into the cylinders and the engine is trashed. Freestyles you just replace the water pump, as its external to the engine block. Freestyles had the 3.0 Duratec thou...

Re: CVT Top off when changing just the HP filter...

Just remember to NOT use ordinary transmission fluid. It will quickly destroy your transmission. There are many horror stories of people taking them to the dealer and having them use ATF. Dwight Absolutely! Not even a "universal" cvt fluid that says it meets the spec is going to be used. I don't wa...

Re: CVT Top off when changing just the HP filter...

Check it with the dipstick after, or, measure what runs out in a pan, and put that much back in. 1 quart is all you need to buy, wont take all of that. HP filter that was installed when they built the CVT had metal ends, Ford HP filter from the dealer has black plastic ends. That Ford replacement f...
