You should have used the bigger rubber cap and passed the whole wiring through without any wire cutting or splicing at all.

I just received my CURT Class III Hitch - 2" Receiver Tube Opening and will be installing onto my '07 Freestyle. Upon first inspection and re-reading the instructions a few times...I am not sure its going to be simple. The instructions (which I got from JC Whitney which matches the instructs from Curt web site) have a drawing that shows feeder holes and that they are to be used to feed the bolt and washer plate. However, I am not certain that the holes for the bolts (the 3 large bolts) are big enough, especially the right rear most hole next to the feeder hole...it is smaller than the 1/2" bolt!

Also, there is a bracket on the left side to hold up the muffler. The bracket is bolted to the under carriage on the left "rail". I am assuming that I remove this bracket, thus exposing the holes for which I will be installing the bolts for the left side? Correct? And then since that bracket is gone, the muffler will actually hang off of the hitch.

I am hoping someone with the same hitch and freestyle year can post pics of of their undersides (left and right).

There is a hole that is smaller than the other 3 and my kit had a smaller bolt for that. I too had to remove the exhaust bracket, and there should be in the instructions, a provision for that. I remember undoing it for the install, then bolting it back on before the nut went on. Some have said there are spacers but I don't remember using any. I have heard that the 07 models have a side mounted hole on driver's side. I have not seen a pic of this so i can't verify that. If you have not already, read up on my install of the hitch at the beginning of this thread. I explain how I did it. It wasnt easy but with patience, you can do it. As long as you can jack up the rear a bit and have something wedged under the hitch to hold it while you bolt it on, the install should be fairly easy. The longest part was just fishing the bolts through. Once done, the rest was fast and easy. There is another thread here with an install too. Andysinh and wheelman seem to be pretty knowlegeable on the subject as well.

I guess, for me, I am just looking for confirmation that its ok to use the "Access Holes" as the rear most holes to use for the hitch to be mounted to the undercarriage. The instructions (appears to be conflicting in drawing details on the Class III, but appears correct in drawing details for the Class III) by drawings on the class III appear to tell you NOT to use the Access Holes for the mount. The written part is confusing as it says to use the rear most holes (but doesnt say that the Access Hole is considered).

Its too bad I cant confirm or point out this issue with Curt as they are closed for the weekend and I need to get it installed today.

NOTE: on the 07, there are NO side mounted holes. And my instructions (per the link) shows to throw away the muffler mounting bracket.

I finally installed my hitch and since I raised a lot of questions, I thought I would followup with a final post with how it went.

The install took me 45 mins with the help of my neighbor. Most of the time took with fishing the bolts through the holes.

If you read my prior posts, this will make sense: I installed the hitch using the rearward most holes (this means the Access Holes). There really is no other way.

The hitch looks really nice and the quality of the hitch is top notch. It also installs like a hidden hitch. If you are considering getting a Curt hitch, dont hesitate.

I just had to replace my Kurt trailer hitch because it was bending, Kurt was pretty good about sending me a new hitch for free. The hitch started to bend by the mounting holes. Here are pictures

When first installed....June, 6 2007

Notice the 1/2" between bumper and hitch.

I can post picture other pictures of the bad hitch if you guys want too.
