We have a 2006 Freestyle, I really like it but recently our DVD player has been acting up. We get audio but the picture looks like it need "tracking" like you would use on an old vcr. any ideas on how to fix this without having to take it in?

Not sure but you may want to see if there is a DVD cleaner. At least for audio CD players that start to skip when playing you can buy a CD that you insert into the CD player and it's supposed to clean the surface of the head or Laser. Worth a try.

I'm going to bump this one up, because we have a similar issue -- intermittently. And while it looks like a tracking issue, the "slip" is actually HORIZONTAL. We can currently stop it by moving the screen along it's hinge and sometimes firmly "squeezing" the screen case, which tells me that this is probably a cable issue between the player (audio continues fine) and the screen ... anyone know if this cable (or possibly even a "ribbon" like many laptops use) is available as a service part? How widely used was the stock DVD player (is it in 50 million Explorers as well?)

Just trying to assess if this is something where it is better to just a) find a replacement unit b) look for parts c) or do I run to a salvage yard and simply try to find as many units as possible to create my own DVD player boneyard???
