I ran over something and noticed fluid streaming out from under my 2008 taurus x. It was windshield wiper fluid. I only have an owners manual, which is pretty poor. I can't get my hands on a service manual. I also have rear wipers. When I got under the car and inspected the windshield wiper fluid reservoir, I don't see the pump or pumps. I think I see the remains of an impellar shaft on the bottom of the reservoir. When I put my hand on the side of the reservoir, I feel something similar to the bottom, so I suspect there was a second pump here which has also been torn off. Other than this, the reservoir itself does not appear to be cracked. Does anyone have a drawing or picture of the reservoir and pump mechanism? Are there 2 pumps? Where are they located? Can the pump or pumps be replaced without replacing the reservoir? Any instructions would be helpful.

From a similar vehicle, the Freestyle, some background information that may help you with your Taurus X [The Freestyle end of production drop in...]:

On Freestyle vehicles, the windshield and rear window washers are supplied with washer fluid from a single washer reservoir and pump, which are located in the engine compartment. The Freestyle windshield washer and the rear window washer are activated by their respective internal wiper motor modules when they receive a ground signal from the wiper switch to either the windshield or rear window washer inputs. Voltage polarity is reversed by either the windshield or rear window wiper motor and module assemblies to achieve directional change of the washer pump and washer fluid. Depending on which ground signal was provided, the windshield or rear window wiper internal motor modules activate either the windshield washer or rear window washer internal relays by grounding the respective relay coil. When either relay is activated, it connects voltage to the washer pump while the deactivated relay provides gound to the washer pump.
