I have a 2008 Eddie Bauer Taurus X with about 30,000 miles. I just came back from a long trip (about 4,000 miles) down and back to Florida from New England.
During the trip, especially after long period of constant speed, I noticed the speedometer bouncing between 62 and 68 mph even though I was going a constant speed. I have also observed the Tachometer jump several 1000rpm, even thought the engine didn't rev.
About 4 or 5 times, during normal highway speeds, the transmission dropped several gears, causing a load thump and sending the rpms way up. Then after a second, the transmission would quickly shift back up to Overdrive.
Since it is still in warranty, I brought it back to the dealer to have them look into it. However, since it only seams happens at higher speeds and after long drives, they can't find anything wrong. Apparently, hooking it up to the computer doesn't indicate anything.
Has anyone else had something similar?
Thanks

Have them check to see if all software updates have been done for the CVT computer.

Well, the dealership is still confused. So, they have installed a recorder device in which I am to push when it happens again. They will then see if they can find out what is going on. Unfortunately, it only seams to happen when I have traveled for a while doing a constant speed. Thus, I will have to wait until my next long distance trip... maybe over the 4th weekend.
