I have a 2008 Taurus X AWD SEL purchased used from a Ford dealership in September 2008. I now have over 60,000 miles on vehicle and I have a Ford Extra Care Warranty. Apart from a couple of issues which were covered by the warranty (a ball joint, and alternator) I've been very happy with the car.

However, I just noticed yesterday that along the front edge of the hood there are some areas of bubbling paint which look like rust. There are no nicks or chips in the paint. Having browsed this forum I gather that the hood could be made out of aluminum (I'll do the magnet test tonight), so it could be aluminum corrosion rather than rust.

Steel or aluminum, it's pretty bad that there is this corrosion on a two year old car. I doubt I'll get much sympathy from the dealership, and naturally the extra care warranty doesn't care enough, so...

Anybody have ideas how to deal with this corrosion? Is my only option to take it to a body shop? Can this corrosion be prevented and/or inhibited?

I believe there is a Ford factory 5 year unlimited mileage warranty on corrosion and rust. Your hood issue may fall under this warranty. You should contact your local dealer to discuss.

I just looked at an 08 X before I boulght my freestyle that had 34K miles on it that the hood was bubbling badly in 4 spots on the edge of the hood. must be a common trouble, just shocking to see that on such a low mileage newer car.

It is a common problem. I went to see about 15 Taurus X's at a dealership last December, and all but one had bubbling on the hood, some worse than others. Mine has some bubbles too. This can't be any secret from Ford. If they were honestly standing behind their product they'd issue an announcement to fix it.

I noticed this right away. Dealer told me good luck with Ford warranty on this issue. Even with this little flaw sighted, I love this car and I'm already looking for another one. I love the Flex also, wife finally got me to drive one. She fell in love with it driving them while they were under development at Ford. We couldn't afford a Flex so we settled for the predecessor to it.
