Anybody have any idea how hard it would be to put in the auto lights to a non-auto light Freestyle ?
Thanks

When the module in my aerostar needed replacing some years ago, the module alone was $140.00. How much it would be for the mod, I don't know.

I recently purchased a 1997 Class C Motorhome in the USA. I had to install daytime running lights in order to register it in Canada. There is a spot to plug in the factory module; however the Ford dealership would not guarantee that the lights would work without additional wiring since the vehicle did not come with drl from the factory. They quoted me a ridiculous price to do them. I bought an after market module (around $80.00, I believe) and installed it myself. One wire to the low beam, one to the high beam, one to a power source (hot when the ignition is on), one to ground, and one wire to the parking brake indicator switch. Quite simple. The lights come on at reduced intensity 15 seconds after you turn on the ignition switch. There are other cheaper modules that turn the lights on at full intensity and as soon as you turn on the ignition. Others that sense the engine running from a spark plug.

Thanks See my previous post. It's just a matter of software programming; nothing to "put in" or install. The dealer can do it, and if they claim it's impossible, find another dealer. They wanted $35 to program, but I negotiated a lower price, since I requested it at the time of sale and they told me it couldn't be done.

The headlight switch is different on a non auto light vehicle. Since I have never ridden in a non auto light FS I can not say for sure whether the sensor in the middle of the dash would be there if the vehicle was not equipped but I have driven non autolight Fusions as rentals and they have no sensor.
So at the least you would need the headlight switch the sensor and the wiring.

Our 07 FS has auto headlights but no DRL's. I've talked in other threads of the forum about the poorman's way to have a sort of DRL situation - and that's by masking off and painting over the dash auto headlight sensor with PlastiGrip. it's thick enough (2 coats) to block out the light, but peels off when you sell the car. The net result is that, when the headlights are in Auto mode, they're on any time the key is in the RUN position. Downside is the dash lights (a/c, radio) dim during the day - but you can easily see them by shutting the headlight switch off if you get stuck. But for normal situations, the wife has her daytime lights on and we just run 'em that way all the time.

Just to follow up: I don't have the auto-lights, so the missing part was just a 5-cent flat piece of plastic that the dealership charged $12 for (!) Fortunately I have a small bonus credit built up for previous work so it was "free".
