If you have experienced or are experiencing the throttle body problem, please file a complaint with NHTSA.org as well as contacting Ford directly. This is a serious safety issue and they need to issue a recall and pay for the TB replacement. There are already many, many complaints in the NHTSA database about this issue so hopefully they are investigating. I had a couple close calls where I would have injured someone had they been standing near my car when it suddenly accelerated. I have two small children and luckily they were in the car with me and not standing at the side of the driveway waving goodbye as I was pulling out.

My 2005 is currently at the dealer waiting for the part to come in. My rental car cost is being covered by Ford but at this point, I will still have to pay the $763.00 for the replacement of the TB.

Simply fully cleaning the throttle body and MAS may as well solve the problem completely! So that you know!

Thanks for letting me know that. I did read where some people have tried that but hubby and I felt it was too dangerous to take a chance that it "might" solve the problem-even bought some TB cleaner but decided to take the car to the dealer when it surged badly in the parking lot and went into "FailSafe Mode". I just don't feel safe having my little ones in the car with this problem. I've seen a few posts on other forums where people cleaned it and still had the problem and ended up having to have the TB replaced anyway.

Just did this myself, we had the same problems you listed. The throttle body was very dirty, really easy to get off and cleaned, done in 10 min. It seems to have worked, just took it out and drove a little bit, we'll see how it does the rest of this week.

I have the same issue with throttle body on my 2005 freestyle 113,000 miles. Lunging forward, stalling, etc. They (Packey Webb Ford, Downers Grove , IL) tried to clean it which did not work. It is in the shop waiting for an new throttle body which will cost me $600 Also, just had AC compressor replaced =$700. Had the rear brake issue at 24,000, although I did get $$$ back for this. Hopefully my trans holds up!!!

Folks,

Used throttle bodies with a warranty are $120.00 on ebay. Give it a try before you spend $500+ at the dealer, Installation involves a $2.00 gasket and 15 minutes of time.

Why by new when used will do!

After 5 years of research and activism on Volvo throttle bodies i was very sensitive to any throttle body problem. For several days I occasionally felt that the engine was not doing exactly what i was telling me. i might have a slight jerk when backing out of the garage or a stumble when starting forward, always at slow speed.
I took it into Ford with the comment it might be a throttle body, a throttle position sensor or a software problem. They found it was a throttle body but since I was covered by an extended warrant it would only cost me the $100 deductible. The throttle body is over $500. The part had to be ordered but will be installed Monday, July 26. I asked for the old one back but it has to be returned to verify the dealer made a proper diagnosis. If they do not call for it in 60 days I can have it.
I drove up a 14,000 foot road yesterday with not problem though I did feel a problem in the idle and slow speed range. My wife would never notice it because it was so slight. I but a OBD tester on the car and got not set or pending codes.

I had never had an extended warranty as I could fix all but a transmission or full engine rebuild, but i thought with
the CVT, cramped engine compartment, new AC refrigerant and electronics it might be a good investment.

I'll post more after the replacement

we are having the same problem with our '07 Freestyle. Started lurching last summer (but only rarely). Worse this summer. i had to replace the A/C compressor early July 07and once that was done it got MUCH worse. Took it to dealer and reported that lurching begins when 1) engine is warm, 2)A/C is on, 3) at complete stop WITH brakes engaged and 4) begin to turn steering wheel to make turn. If i turn the A/C off the lurching is very minimal. Funny how it got worse when A/C was repaired. Dealer says i need new throttle body (will try to find one) and is "not safe to drive". Now that i have my car back it is worse, idles a lower speed when stopped, RPM fluctuate too much at idle (worse whe A/C is on) and almost dies. Thinking about trying throttle body cleaner (although my husbanc looked at a few weeks ago and said it looked "clean") or on another forum another used said he got a Fuel Induction serivce done and that fixed the problem on his car. My fear is that the throttle body is not the fix and then i am out $700 plus in addition to the $1300 to fix the compressor and motor mount. Frustrating...... i just want my car to be drivable, at least til it is paid for. I have created a complaint with the NHTSA and wil also complain to Ford.
thanks to all who post

I bought a used 2006 Freestyle in March 2010 and I am having the same lurching issues. I took it to my local Ford dealer and immediately was told it was probably the throttle body. One service writer stated that he alone had 6 cars that came in for the same problems in a one week period. This dealership had 4 service writers the day I came to visit. He said that this particular part was on back order and had been for many weeks. I asked the writer about the possiblility of cleaning the trottle body and he said that they tried this method on a few repairs but had no success. The estimate that I received was in the $800 range. This is a serious safety issue. My wife was driving the Freestyle on day and was coming to a stop and the car accelerated into the intersection. I went to the site NHTSA.org, but I could not find a link to file a complaint. Please give me additional information and I help do my part to have this issue be corrected. This should be a "recall".

to log a complaint try http://www.nhtsa.gov
There will be big blue rectangle in the upper right hand corner that should direct you to the complaint process. It did not take too long.
I did send an email to Ford and got a reply email saying that they were sorry i was having problems and verified with the dealer their diagnosis of the needed part and would try to help expedite the part and that i should hear back from someone in 2 days ( have yet to hear from anyone). In my email i stated that it i would like to have a "loaner" vehicle since mine is "not safe to drive". that was not addressed. I guess i'll wait til they contact with the info as to when the part will be delivered before i address that. I took my car to an independent shop today that does fuel induction service and asked them to look at it. The mechanic sounded very knowledgeable as to the many things that it "could" be. I am hopeful that he can solve the problem. I also called "Car Talk" today in hopes that this might even make the show.

just got a call form the independant shop with "good news". He said with what all i told him of my experiences and research, he skipped the diagnostics (just would make my bill more$) and went straight to doing the FUEL INDUCTION service. He said when they got to some Air Flow part (the techincal lingo escapes me) that is was really dirty and one they cleaned it up the car ran great. It cost me $125. I would say try this 1st before waiting for a Throttle body part that might not fix your car.
thanks to all who post!!!!
